VetSpec SuperLite® Senior Formula is designed to address the nutritional challenges that dogs face as they reach their more senior years. It consists of a complex Veterinary Specification supplement within a CEREAL-GRAIN-FREE Super Premium dog food including 50% Chicken with added vegetables and herbs. In particular, older dogs need optimum nutrition to support a healthy immune system, which means a diet rich in antioxidants such as Vitamins A, E and C and other natural sources (e.g. Rosemary). They are also often overweight because they are less likely to be as active and therefore need less calories on a daily basis. Just as important for older dogs is that they need more nutritional support to maintain healthy flexible joints. These complex requirements are all now built into a single delicious complete dog food - VetSpec SuperLite® Senior Formula. When fed at the recommended rate additional individual supplements are therefore no longer required.

Ideal for

  • Elderly dogs prone to weight gain
  • Senior dogs needing a low calorie diet
  • Older dogs with poor mobility
  • Overweight dogs being treated by a veterinary surgeon
  • Greedy dogs that need feed volume but low calories

Technical Focus

Fat metabolism

The fat requirement of dogs depends on the animals’ need for essential fatty acids (EFAs) and a calorie dense form of energy. The fat in pet foods is typically two and half times more calorific than protein or carbohydrate. As dogs get older they tend to become less active and therefore their requirement for fat in the diet decreases. However, dietary fat is also a source of linoleic acid which is essential so the dog can make an array of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). These fatty acids are essential to the dog for proper membrane structure, maintenance of skin and coat condition and lipid transport in the blood. Dog foods designed specifically for older dogs should therefore be relatively lower in fat than normal foods but higher in quality to ensure enough linoleic acid is available to keep the dog in a healthy condition. * Compared with VetSpec Healthy Dog Complete Dog Food

This table is intended as a guide only and exact feeding amounts should be varied according to your dog's age, sex, breed, condition and activity levels. Please note that feeding amounts should be based on the ideal adult body weight for your dog. Adult dogs should be fed twice per day. When introducing VetSpec into your dog's diet we advise that this is done gradually over a period of 5-10 days until it replaces all other food. Fresh drinking water should always be available.
