Rik and Sarah Thompson had been looking to rehome a rescue dog for a long time when they came across ex Irish farm dog and tri-coloured collie, Charlie.
Based in Micklefield, West Yorkshire, the couple visited Wiccaweys Rescued Border Collies in North Lincolnshire and they were immediately smitten with Charlie even though he was very nervous and timid.
Speaking to staff at the rescue centre for advice, Rik and Sarah went back to see Charlie five times so that he could get to know them better and it was on the fifth occasion that he went home with them.
Now five-years-old, Charlie had been at the rescue centre for three years and was terrified of people, bikes, runners and strangers, aggressively barking at them through fear.
Said Sarah: “Charlie is great with other dogs but after that, life in general just worries him. The team at the centre made us very aware what we were taking on when he came home with us.”
